Air Pollution, defined as the presence in or introduction into the air of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects, is a environmental issue that has been destroying our planet for years. Air pollution may be described as contamination of the atmosphere by gaseous, liquid, or solid wastes or by-products that can endanger human health and welfare of plants and animals, attack materials, reduce visibility or produce undesirable odors.
Air Pollution has been a problem since the days of Ancient Rome. While this was a long time ago, that doesn’t mean that it has improved much since then. Columbus and Atlanta are two cities in Georgia that have a long way to go in regards of solving this environmental issues. The two Georgia cities are rated among the worst metro areas for air pollution in the United States, according to the American Lung Association’s annual report on air quality. While the people of Atlanta have tried to solve this problem, their methods have not been helpful. One of these methods was building more roads. This led to even more vehicles on the highway, and made the problem even worse than it previously was.
About 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution.
